Hospital pharmacist have been involved with the preparation of parenteral dosage forms for several decades Was only compounding sterile intravenous, intrathecal, ophthalmic, and irrigating solutions that were not available commercially.

Parenteral comes from a geek words “para” and “enteron” =outside the intestine
Injection medication into veins and through subcutaneous tissue.
