In India, it's not possible to pursue MD (Doctor of medicine) after your PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy) graduation.

But, It's possible to do in abroad. MD after PharmD or Dual Degree programs offered by some foreign universities of the United States and Russia.

MD after PharmD Program

You need to complete the prerequisites as per the countries requirements to do your MD program after PharmD as follows;

1. In the US, you must be a registered US pharmacist for applying MD Program.

2. In case of Russia, Your PharmD credit hours should be transferred to the universities.

3. You must complete your M-CAT examination for MD admission.

4. Students need to undergo Multiple mini-interview process’’ (MMI)

PharmD and MD Dual Degree Program

Candidates who are interested can try dual degree program (PharmD and MD) and the length of the combined program is 8 years (4 in pharmacy and 4 in medicine).

Foremost, doing MD after PharmD is not a right carrier path for anyone. Here is why it's not recommended doing MD after PharmD;

1. Highly expensive

2. Time period is high.

3. Professional changes will be affecting your profile (Pharmacist to Doctor)

Dual degree PharmD and MD program Scope

As per the survey conducted by Shah et al., doing dual degree program like PharmD and MD is a good a carrier option for the candidates who aim for pharmaceutical industry jobs rather than practice.
