Insulin resistance is a state in which biological and physiological responses to insulin are impaired in tissue. There is a compensatory increase in insulin concentrations at its early stages.

Hyperinsulinemia ( increased Insulin concentration in blood) may compensate for resistance to some insulin biological behavior, it may lead to overexpression of action in tissues that maintain normal or minimally compromised insulin sensitivity.

This metabolic dysfunction leads to a cluster of abnormalities with serious clinical consequences – most importantly, cardiovascular disease (CVD), chronic kidney disease and type 2 diabetes.
