Junior Research Fellowship (ICMR)

ICMR JRF fellowships support admission to PhD and research programmes to work in the fields of biomedical sciences with emphasis on Life Sciences (120 fellowships) and Social Sciences (30 fellowships). The award of JRF is based on merit in a country wide entrance examination.

Eligibility

MSc/MA or equivalent degree with minimum 55% marks for General/EWS/OBC candidates and 50% for the SC/ST and PwBD candidates in the subjects mentioned above

Candidates appearing in final year examinations, or are in the final year of MSc/MA (or equivalent) during the session of the call year — eligible as RA (Result Awaited)

Age limit: 28 years (can be relaxed up to 5 years for SC/ST, PwBD and female candidates, and 3 years for OBC category) as on 30 September of the call year

Award of JRF depends on candidates finding placement in a medical college/hospital/uni- versity/national laboratory/institution of higher learning and research as applicable

Support

Fellowship:

ICMR JRFs — ₹31,000 per month
ICMR SRFs — ₹35,000 per month
HRA as per host institution rules
Annual contingency grant up to ₹20,000 per year

Duration
The maximum total duration of the fellowship (JRF plus SRF) is five years.

Deadline
The ICMR JRF entrance examination is held once a year, and the admission notice is published usually during March/April on the ICMR website as well as in leading English newspapers of India.
