Women Scientists Scheme - A (DST)

The “Women Scientists Scheme - A (WOS - A)” for research in basic and applied sciences has been developed by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for providing opportunities to women scientists and technologists who after having a break in career, desire to return to main- stream science and work as bench-level scientists.

Eligibility

Women Scientists holding postgraduate degrees in basic sciences, graduate or postgradu- ate degrees in professional courses, or PhD

Have a break in career

Age group: 27 -57 years

Not eligible — Candidates in regular employment (women scientists in temporary positions in research or academics may apply, but are required to leave their earlier assignment if WOS project is approved)

Support

This scheme provides a research grant which includes the fellowship of the awardee and cost of small equipment, contingencies, travel, consumables etc.

Candidates with MPhil/MTech/MPharm/MVSc or equivalent degree:
Monthly fellowship — ₹40,000 + HRA as applicable
Maximum total project cost — ₹25 lakhs, excluding HRA and Overhead

Candidates with MSc in Basic/Applied Sciences or MBBS or BTech or equivalent degree:
Monthly fellowship — ₹31,000 +HRA as applicable
Maximum total project cost — ₹20 lakhs, excluding HRA and Overhead


Duration
The financial support is available for three years.

Deadline
The applications are open throughout the year, but there will be a break of one month for the sub- mission of applications after every two months.
