Buying a medicine from the pharmacy? Does it come under the National List of Essential Medicines, 2015? Then, you can easily check the maximum price of the drug.

Taking one more step towards making essential medicines accessible and affordable to the common man, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), the country’s drug price regulator, has launched a mobile app — Pharma Sahi Daam — on which people can check the maximum MRP for the brand or the scheduled formulation of medicine.

Available for Android phones, users can key in a few letters to get the ceiling price. “Right now, the search will give the cap on each formulation. In the coming weeks, MRP of all brands making the scheduled formulation will be available on the app. We will be covering 8,000 to 10,000 brands, ranging from common paracetamol and high blood pressure tablets to diabetes and cancer medicines,” said Bhupendra Singh, chairman, NPPA.

The iOS version of the app is being developed. “It should be available in a month. We will also be updating the app to include a list of non-scheduled drugs,” Mr. Singh said.
