Describing the consequences of strip cutting, the IPA said that strip cutting can be harmful to both the chemists as well as the customers as the batch/expiry details can be lost; expiry of cut strip not settled by company; loose cut strips get lost/misplaced, mix-ups, wrong dispensing; financial losses; at times cutting is difficult and exposes the dosage form; and details of medicament/manufacturer are lost and may not be valid evidence in case of serious adverse reactions.

Almost every day, one or other product strip size is increased or changed by the manufacturers: From 6 to 10 to 15 to 30. Some strip sizes are now of 30, 40 & even 50. This increases the likelihood of cutting a strip.
