A residency is a structured, directed, salaried postgraduate training program in pharmacy practice that typically lasts one or two year.
A program that focuses on the development of competence, skills, and application of drug therapy knowledge in providing a broad scope of pharmaceutical services to patients. As simple its a program which expertise the PharmD graduates on specialized areas. Eg: Oncology, Nephrology.

Generally it has two parts as PGY1 & PEY2 PEY= Post Graduation Year

First year PharmD graduates will be doing their normal internship , from second year students will be trained under any specialized clinical areas by dedicated clinical preceptor ( Doctors).

During their residency period students will be paid for their service & only minimum no of students will be taken for residential program by the pharmacy colleges. Right now in India Jss pharmacy college offers residency programs for PharmD graduates.

TO ADMIN

thank you for the ideas about the residency that you've given above. as you've mentioned above that we have to do this residency with doctors and we get paid too and only minimum number of residency colleges offers residency programs. so do we have to go and apply for colleges who offers residency programme or are there other ways too?? can you just elaborate this part and explain. would be much heplful.

thank you

Higher studies after Pharm D depends on the individual interest. Research oriented candidates can go for PhD which will be taking 3-4yrs depending on part-time or full time. Clinical - Pharmacy Practice interested candidates can opt for residency programme (2 years ) on particular specialisation ( cardiology , nephrology or oncology etc).- PharmD + PhD or PharmD + Residency is based on your interest and both are different.

1.PharmD + PhD
2.PharmD + Residency Programs
3.PharmD+ MS ( Outside India)

Which one is best ? Whats the scope of MS programs after PharmD?
Dear all ,
I am pharm.d graduate ( Regular, 2k8 batch) working as Drug safety associate in Johnson and johnson, USA.
I have done my master in health care administration in MSU, Missouri. I have few points to share with you guys regarding higher studies after pharm.d in USA (only) . I dont have much idea about PhD programs here. but, if you want to pursue masters after pharm.d in USA , i would suggest you to choose the course and university wisely. Recently few universities have lost their accreditation and few international students from those universities are facing problems now ( some of them didn't get STEM extension, for some of them their hard earned degrees are invalid now). So, its safe to join state universities which are recognized and affordable rather than joining private universities( In most of the private universities you will get the admission easily but they collect higher fee which is approximately 2- 3 times that of state universities as per my knowledge). I find many Pharm.d's come here for MHA, MPH, Regulatory affairs, Health informatics and few other courses. You should keep in mind that along with your interest, the chances of getting a job after your masters also matters. Few of you guys must have already heard about new administration, foreign policies, unpredictable fluctuations in the market( job openings) and issues related to work visa (H1B). I would suggest you to go for STEM courses ( you get 3 years (1+2)of OPT for STEM where as for non-STEM you get 1 year OPT) if you want to work here for a while after completion of your masters. To conclude finish your masters, get a job, apply for H1 (make sure that your employer sponsors H1 for you ) .
When it comes to residency programs, I got a chance to speak with chief clinical pharmacists of few reputed hospitals during the course of my masters program and i was told that they offer residency program for foreign students but the evaluation part , application process will be little complex.(Note: it will be costly) ( It will be nice if you can get the opportunity, work environment was very exciting). All the points that i have discussed are not to discourage anyone but i just want to share my thoughts. May be i can share few other things if the questions are more specific but for now i could only provide this info.
