About BIRAC
Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) is a not-for-profit Section 8, Schedule B, Public Sector Enterprise, set up by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India as an interface agency to strengthen and empower the emerging Biotech enterprise to undertake strategic research and innovation, addressing nationally relevant product development needs. BIRAC is a new industry-academia interface and implements its mandate through a wide range of impact initiatives, be it providing access to risk capital through targeted funding, technology transfer, IP management and handholding schemes that help bring innovation excellence to the biotech firms and make them globally competitive. About CDSA:
Clinical Development Services Agency (CDSA) is an extramural unit of Translational Health Science & Technology Institute under Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. Registered as a not-for profit research organization, it aims to develop an eco-system for training and learning and work with public sector institutions, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to translate innovative technologies into medical products for public good. CDSA works on a national mandate to enhance the capacity and capability in the area of clinical development and translational research. CDSA is working with various national and international agencies on different clinical projects and involved in programs for greater public good. Till date, CDSA has completed more than 90 programs across India covering 5800 participants from 1600 institutions steered by 856 faculty members or resource personnel across 48 cities. To take this forward, BIRAC in collaboration with CDSA is organising an one Day Regulatory Workshop on‘Current Regulations for Medical devices and in vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Kits in India’on 30th March 2017 at C-CAMP, Bengaluru. The proposed workshop brings together the regulatory educators from Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and National Institute of Biologicals (NIB) experts from various Institutes and Industries. The goal of this workshop is to provide direct, relevant and valuable information on the key scientific aspects of Medical devices and in vitroDiagnostic (IVD) Kit approvals and its regulations in India. There will be an unique platform to ‘’Meet the Regulators’’, where one can clarify their doubts and seek expert opinion and guidance from the regulators and experts. You will also get an Handbook (eCopy) on medical devices and in vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Kits.
Shri. A. B. Ramteke (Former Joint Drugs Controller of India, CDSCO, HQ, New Delhi; Consultant, Regulatory Affairs, CDSA) is the Course Director of this program.
This program is organized at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP). C-CAMP is a Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India) initiative and a member of the Bangalore Life Science Cluster, which includes NCBS and inStem. C-CAMP was established with the aim of enabling cutting-edge bio-science research and entrepreneurship. As a part of C-CAMP's mandate of promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, C-CAMP has created and fostered an entrepreneur-friendly culture in and around academic environment through its various activities which spans facilitating early stage discoveries made in the lab, proof-of concept stage studies and validation studies for commercialization. In the last few years C-CAMP has emerged as a thriving hub for innovation in Life Sciences and is currently working with and supports over 70 life science start-ups/spin-offs through funding, bio-incubation and mentorship.
